FtA is providing this list of local resources around the Reno- Tahoe area, including the contact information for various farms, ways to secure local products, as well as information about when and where you can find farmer\u2019s markets in the area.<\/p>\n<p>Probably the two easiest ways to secure local product is through the Great Basin Community Food Co-op or through a farmers\u2019 market.<\/p>\n<p>Most the producers on this resource list sell through the Great Basin Community Co-op. The co-op offers \u2018one stop shopping\u2019 if you plan on buying from multiple producers. You can call the farms ahead of time and place your order and it will be waiting for you to pick it up at the Co-op. This enables you to place specific orders to meet your product and quantity needs.<\/p>\n<p>Another option is visit one of the many farmers\u2019 markets in the Reno-Tahoe area. Local farmers\u2019 markets offer fresh vegetables, flowers, locally prepared foods and specialty items. With numerous markets throughout the region, you can find a market every day of the week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Great Basin Community Food Co-op<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>542 \u00bd Plumas St.\u00a0Reno, NV 89509 775-324-6133 greatbasinfood.coop<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The co-op is open to the public and provides access to local produce, bulk food, health and beauty items, and special orders. Membership is $15 and advantages are that it enables you to place bulk and special orders, as well as provides a 10% discount on in-store products. Membership would be required if you plan to place orders with local growers and pick them up at the co-op. However, the co-op does honor other co-op memberships. Bill\u2019s son Rick, and his wife BAnn Lattin moved onto the family farm in 1977.<\/p>\n<p>Lattin Farms has been selling produce since the mid-50s. Since 1977, the family has pioneered the production of red raspberries in Nevada and the Old-Fashioned Roadside Produce Stand has been in operation since 1989. In addition, while the greater area is known for producing quality beef and lamb, there are limited opportunities to buy directly from the producers. We have however listed two ways to buy directly from ranchers that produce grass-fed beef. Ranch One beef is aged to perfection, vacuum packed and quick-frozen to preserve the delicate and unique flavors of grass-fed beef.
